Exhibition Opening

  • The Dean's Art Prize Announcement: Townsville- The Built Environment

Gail Mabo is a Meriam artist from Mer Island in the Torres Strait. Her multidisciplinary practice stretches from dance to visual arts and is always grounded in Indigenous cultural knowledges.

 

The Dean's Art Prize, kindly donated by our Dean, The Very Reverend and Venerable Dr Kenneth Lay , will be announced at the Exhibition Opening. This year the theme is  “Townsville – The Built Environment”. This promises to be a captivating exploration of how architectural and man-made structures interact with and impact their surroundings.

   Following on from a line of excellent artists who have graced us with their exceptional talents in the past, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the key speaker and Featured Artist Kerrie Everett Horrocks. The presentation is expected to draw a significant audience, as she shares her experiences and discusses the intersection of art, environment, and conservation.

 

Known for her innovative work with the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA), Horrocks will offer insights into her creative process and the significance of MOUA.

Sentinel Sketching

Immerse yourself in a unique drawing experience as we use 3D printed scale models of the famous underwater sculptures, The Sentinels, as our focus. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, this workshop is open to all skill levels and no prior experience is necessary.

Guided by our featured artist, Kerrie Everett Horrocks, you will explore the intricate details of The Sentinels and learn various drawing techniques to bring your artwork to life. All materials will be provided, so just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!
